Dr. Tom Carey is a Professor of Management Sciences in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo, currently on leave to lead collaborative projects to enhance teaching and learning across higher education institutions and systems in Canada and the U.S. In the Canadian half of his professional life, Tom is Visiting Senior Scholar at the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, where he heads a program in Knowledge Mobilization for Exemplary Teaching and Learning across all the colleges and universities in the province.

In the U.S., Tom is a Visiting Professor at San Diego State University and Visiting Senior Scholar in the Chancellor’s Office of the California State University. Today Tom is wearing the hat Principal Investigator for the FACCTS program for collaborative course transformation teams in the California community colleges, based at San Diego State and funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Amongst his other hats, he is Program Leader for the ELIXR research and innovation program funded by the U.S. Dept of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education, and founding Director and now consultant to the Transforming Course Design initiative in the California State University.
