Amherst College IT Index 2009
As I did last year at this time, I gathered the following to tell the story of the changes occurring here and now in the life of the College. In 2009 Amherst College enrolled a total of 1,690 students.
1. Between FY05 and FY09 the decrease in the total number of outgoing phone calls placed by College employees: 117,823 calls, or 25%.
2. In the same period, the decrease in the total number of incoming calls: less than 2%.
3. Number of employees with College-provide Blackberries: 81.
4. Number of employees who have registered personal iPhones or iPod Touches on the College’s network: 88.
5. Student who have done so: 294.
6. The College increased its inventory of computers assigned to employees by 126 over the last four years. Percentage of this increase represented by laptops: 85%.
7. Percentage of the increase represented by Macs: 43%.
8. Percentage change in employee calls to the IT help desk in the last five years: 60% increase.
9. Average number of OneCard transactions per day when classes are in session: 20,000.
10. In the academic year 2008-2009, the peak number of viewers per day for live, webcasts of men’s and women’s athletic events: 498.
11. Subscribers to the Amherst College YouTube channel: 86 (Sept. 09).
12. Followers of the Amherst College Twitter feed: 543 (Sept. 09).
13. Members of the Amherst College Alumni and Friends LinkedIn group: 2,315 (Sept. 09).
14. Fans of the Amherst College Facebook group: 2,660 (Sept. 09).
15. Members of the Amherst College community who have registered and logged in to www.amherst.edu: 13,918.
16. Average visits and page-views per day on the College's web site when classes are in session: 14,000 visits and 92,250 page views.
17. Total linear miles of cabling in the Amherst College telephone network, data network, and cable TV network: Over 5,000 miles.
18. Total square feet covered by the College's wireless network: 2.25 million.
