Smarthistory.org was selected as the winner of the 2009 Webby Award for best education website. Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, the Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

Smarthistory.org was created in 2005 by art historians Beth Harris and Steven Zucker as an engaging--and free--multimedia supplement or alternative to the traditional art history textbook. Smarthistory.org delivers the narratives of Western art history using text, images, podcasts, and screen-casts, enabling a far more dynamic and muti-faceted introduction to the periods, pieces and artists introduced in the traditional survey course.
