With over 1 billion photos in play and an estimated 11,000 images served per second on a busy day, Flickr is an increasingly important image resource. There's been a recent flurry of discussion on some lists and blogs about using Flickr to share images within institutions or nonprofit groups.
The Museum 2.0 blog http://museumtwo.blogspot.com/2007/02/20-at-work-why-you-should-use-flic... has a piece on how Flickr can be used within museums; the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) has a Flickr Affinity Group meeting April 4 http://groups.nten.org/grouplist.htm?topics=3000 and the Museum Computer Network has been discussing this issue.
Any readers who have been using Flickr in their research or teaching are encouraged to add to our own discussion on this very topic in the Forum on the Wesleyan/NITLE Digital Image Report - See Flickrology at http://www.academiccommons.org/group/imageproject/forum/for-faculty-init....
