Wlodzimierz Sobkowiak
Włodzimierz Sobkowiak is professor of English linguistics in the School of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland. Over the 27 years of his academic career he has researched and taught English phonetics and phonology, humorology, and - more recently - lexicography and CALL. His "English Phonetics for Poles" (first published in 1996, now in third edition) is the most widely used EFL pronunciation textbook in Poland. Sobkowiak is also author of "Metaphonology of English paronomasic puns" (1991), "Pronunciation in EFL Machine Readable Dictionaries" (1999) and more than eighty scholarly papers and reviews. He has co-authored a number of EFL textbooks: "The lighter side of English" (1997), "Limericks" (1997) and "Matchbox English" (2001). Back in 1993, he co-authored one of the first EFL CALL programs in Poland, "Pop-English", which gained enormous popularity and is still used in EFL teaching and learning in Poland.
