Notice to SIG Coordinator (boilerplate)
ACADEMIC
COMMONS WILL BE BLOGGING
NERCOMP EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS
Attention SIGMasters
Academic Commons will
be blogging selected NERCOMP SIG events and workshops as part of its mission
to provide the higher education community
with high-quality information about trends and issues in computing, information
technology, librarianship, student learning, and faculty development.
Which events are chosen?
We intend to cover events and
workshops that involve teaching, learning, research, and scholarly
communications.
What if your event is chosen?
Academic Commons will appoint a peer
from the NERCOMP community to write-up your event. The report will appear on
Academic Commons (http://www.academiccommons.org)
and will provide a summary of each session, links to relevant materials,
suggested readings, and commentary. Examples of past reports that we have
published can be found at http://www.academiccommons.org/commons/review/nercomp-10-27-05-emerging-trends-for-teaching-and-learning .
As the coordinator of the event, you will be asked to inform your presenters that we have arranged for this coverage, and that they may be contacted by the writer for clarification of points made, suggestions for readings, and for any hand-outs or slides they may have used during their presentation. We will provide a letter explaining this that you can simply pass on to your presenters. (Sample letters are on the other side of this sheet).
The process in a nutshell
Before the event:
- The SIG coordinator is notified by Academic Commons that an event has been chosen for coverage.
- The SIG coordinator notifies speakers of the coverage using letter provided by Academic Commons.
- Two weeks before the workshop NERCOMP provides the list of registrants to Academic Commons, who recruits a writer for the event.
- The writer is prepped regarding expectations and guidelines by Academic Commons.
Following the event:
- The writer submits materials to Academic Commons within 2 weeks.
- Academic Commons' Managing Editor works with the reporter to finalize materials.
- The finalized materials are shared with the speakers for comments, enhancements, and corrections.
- The finished report is posted on the Academic Commons 3 weeks later.
