Podcasting Can Help College Students Learn, D&M Says

Re: Podcasting Can Help College Students Learn, D&M Says

The study finds that students "believe the audio recordings assisted them in the learning process," yet the headline reads "Podcasting Can Help College Students Learn." I'm finding the same pattern with many podcasting evaluations. Researchers capture how students feel about podcasts (particulary lecture podcasts), then report the findings as though pre- and post-test studies actually proved an increase student performance. In fact, studies that have measured learning outcomes in courses with lecture webcasts/podcasts show no significant difference from courses without webcasts/podcasts. (Two good studies: http://cshe.berkeley.edu/publications/docs/cost_culture_and_complexity.pdf and http://www.utexas.edu/academic/diia/research/reports/webcasteval_report_fl04-spr05.pdf) Anyone know of any evaluations that actually measure learning and demonstrate an improvement? I'd love to hear about them.
