A 100-year-old lesson in new media: The challenges and opportunities of teaching the new technology language

Engagement and interactivity are teaching buzzwords, but they are not new concepts. In her classic 1912 study, Romiett Stevens found that 80 percent of class time was spent on teacher questions and student responses. This article proposes that if we’re going to teach in the new technology landscape we need to return to a higher level of student engagement and interactivity.
