"Library-IT Mergers: Is a Merger in My Future?"
- DATE: October 10, 2008
- TIME: 9:00- 3:30 (Coffee and Registration start at 8:00)
- PRICE: NERCOMP Members: $124, Non-Members: $249
- LOCATION: Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center, Southbridge, MA.
DESCRIPTION: In recent years many institutions of higher education have chosen to combine their library and information technology organizations to better position themselves to meet the challenges of a changing world of teaching and learning. Many others have considered the idea; some have merged and some, even, have de-merged.
It's time for a considered review. What prompts organizations to merge? What are the particular advantages and challenges of a merged organization? What inherent changes in staff skills, responsibilities, service provision, or customer service quality might result? What are some concrete lessons learned -- from newly merged organizations, from long-term mergers? What can we expect in the future?
Attendees of this SIG will come away with answers to all of these questions provided by established leaders in local schools involved in or considering mergers, and be better able to answer the question: is a merger in my future?
