DESCRIPTION:
Within the
broader scope of IT, the integration of technology and the field of
instructional technology has gained tremendous ground over the past ten years.
No one understands this better than the academic/educational technology
director. Our classrooms are smart and becoming smarter, our staff are
challenged to become competent in a widening array of technologies, and our
resources are stretched to accommodate the proliferation of technology
applications across the disciplines. Further complicating our task, we strive to
hit moving targets as new technologies with academic promise rapidly emerge and
evolve. This SIG was developed to facilitate a group of like-minded
professionals toward an improved understanding of some of the most critical
challenges inherent in this work. Each sub-topic (i.e. planning, piloting,
promoting and partnering) will be approached from varied institutional
perspectives; successful models for addressing these challenges will be offered
for further consideration and to benefit the whole. Through active learning
pedagogies, each workshop participant will be invited to enter into the
conversation, to think carefully about each challenge as presented from a
director's perspective, and to contribute professional insights to inform our
collective understanding. Sample materials, templates, and additional resources
will be provided to help facilitate this work at the home
institution.
